 Hi friends,

It’s been 100 days since President Trump started his second term—and a lot has happened. From headline-grabbing executive orders to shaky economic news, things are moving fast in Washington.

Here’s a quick snapshot of where things stand:

  • Trump’s approval rating is at 39%

  • Over 200 lawsuits are challenging his executive orders

  • Inflation is down, but the stock market has dropped around 9%

  • Tariffs are causing headaches for small businesses

  • Big changes are happening—cuts to foreign aid, layoffs in federal agencies, and more

Independents were a major force in getting Trump and Republicans into office in 2024. But they’re not locked in. If things don’t improve, many are ready to vote for change again in 2026.

And based off of the first 100 days, things aren’t looking great. His approval rating has swung by 11 points with independents since he took office in January.

At the Independent Center, we’re keeping a close eye on all of it—with a no-nonsense, nonpartisan approach you can trust.

Stay informed. Stay independent.

Best,

Lura

Tariffs Hurt All of Us.

Tariffs might make for good politics. But they don’t help with affordability.

Trending issues this week:

  • Restore Trust in Elections and Improve Access to Voting: To rebuild trust, we need reforms like proportional representation, the ability to recall officials, and using the national popular vote.

  • Make Health Care More Fair and Practical: Both parties should support making health care less tied to jobs, more transparent in pricing, and supported by strong nonprofit providers.

  • Focus Economic Policy on Innovation, Not Isolation: Instead of relying on nationalism, we should invest in new ideas, job retraining, and strong supply chains to stay competitive.
