Where Does America Go From Here?

Hi Friends,

In recent weeks, America has faced a series of heartbreaking events that challenge the very foundation of our Republic. The assassination of Charlie Kirk on a college campus, following the tragic murders of two Minnesota legislators and the attempt on near-fatal President Trump's life, has left many asking: What is happening to our democracy?

These aren’t isolated incidents. They reflect a deeper tension in our political culture—one fueled by sensationalist media, partisan hostility, and a breakdown in civil discourse. Many people are calling for our political leaders to fix what's broken in politics. But many of them exploit and contribute to this brokenness for their own gain.

After all, in our daily lives, we find ways to accomplish goals and solve problems even when we disagree with our family members, neighbors, and coworkers. Washington, DC is one of the few places where it's wrong to reach across the aisle, talk to people you disagree with, and look for common ground.

At the Independent Center, we think ordinary Americans are the real leaders on working together across differences and we're working to elevate their voices.

Where are independents in all this?

One of our priorities at the Independent Center isn't telling people what to think, it's listening to what they think. That's why we conduct polling and focus groups. And the results of our latest polling are really interesting. They suggest that Millennials and Gen Z are about to bring some real changes to the political landscape. If you want to learn more, join us for a call tomorrow with our pollster, Brett Loyd, who will walk us through these latest findings.

If you’d like to join, you can RSVP using the link here.

In the coming weeks, we'll be announcing more opportunities to make your voice heard. Want to visit Washington and tell elected officials what you think? Want to meet up with likeminded individuals in your area? Want to join us for an informal Ask Me Anything? It's all coming your way. If you want to get more information ahead of time, email [email protected]

A Republic, If We Can Keep It

Benjamin Franklin’s famous words remind us that democracy isn’t self-sustaining. It requires effort, vigilance, and above all—civic responsibility. Non-partisan independents and independent-minded Americans are the ones doing the hard work of citizenship. Keep it up. You're preserving the American experiment and we need you.

With gratitude,

Lura

Every little bit counts in the push for political representation!

Political Discussions Trending on Reddit This Week

Political Violence and Ideological Blame - The discourse highlights the rising instances of political violence in the U.S. and how political affiliations of perpetrators are often weaponized to further ideological divides. This reflects a broader concern about the normalization of violence in political discourse and the challenges of addressing its root causes in a polarized environment.

Age and Political Leadership - The ongoing debate about age limits for political leaders, particularly those over 70, reveals societal attitudes toward ageism and the qualifications necessary for effective leadership. Participants weigh the benefits of experience against concerns about cognitive decline, emphasizing the importance of voter choice in electing older candidates. Independent Center 2025 3

Exploitation of Political Events for Partisan Gain - Recent discussions indicate a trend where political violence is increasingly used to advance partisan narratives, particularly in the context of radicalization and ideological blame. This marks a shift in how such events are perceived and discussed, raising concerns about the implications for democratic values.

The Independent Center is the go-to organization for information, research, and engagement with independent voters, who now make up the plurality of the electorate.

We represent those who are fed up with partisan politics and feel politically homeless. We believe the future is not red or blue; it’s fiscally responsible, socially inclusive, and free to choose the best options for ourselves, our families, and our communities.
